For the first settlers the moor was the source of terrifying myths and stories. Today no-one gets lost. Because a number of places of attraction serve as "moor gateways" and facilitate access to the Nature Park: the Emsland Moormuseum in Groß Hesepe, the Veenpark in Barger-Compascuum, the Oil & Natural Gas Museum in Twist and the Veenloopcentrum in Weiteveen have not only concentrated the Moor Experience in interesting exhibitions and displays but also provide further information, for example, maps or route tips. At four further information points – Van Gogh Huis, Collectie Brands, Smalspoormuseum and Bienenzentrum – visitors are informed about special points of interest relating to the Moor, for example, about the life and work of the famous painter who used the Moor as inspiration for numerous works.
