Nature parks were created to conserve, maintain and further-develop extensive, predominately rural cultural landscapes that stand out for their special diversity, special identity and natural beauty. Because of their rural conditions nature parks are especially suited for recreation.
The Bourtanger Moor Nature Park has made it its aim to conserve and maintain the natural world and landscape and their typical features within the Nature Park and to support, promote and coordinate collaboration between German and Dutch Nature Park members. Further tasks of the Nature Park are the development and use of nature-related recreational opportunities and training and public relations for the areas of nature, landscape and cultural history. When carrying out such tasks, both economic and cultural and social concerns must be taken into consideration.
To enable environmentally friendly recreation in the Nature Park area and promote the coordination and development of tourism, various projects are being implemented by the Nature Park. The Nature Park applies for, receives and manages financial contributions from third parties as well as European and national assistance. During performance of the tasks neither the general economic nor agricultural development in the region must be impaired.
