An old boundary stone in the forest, a historical railway embankment through the moor, a former sheepfold on the heath – these are just three of more than 80 information points you can discover by the wayside in Bourtanger Moor Nature Park. They bear witness to the past, while also showing how the current natural and cultural landscapes between the Ems river and the German-Dutch border came about.

Each information point has a story to tell, as you will see on this page. Would you like to see what has become of the count's estate in the moor, where the sheep still graze on the heath, or how the former tank road has become a route into nature? You can plan your tour online and include the relevant information points.

If you set out spontaneously, you can read the stories and histories along the way on your smart phone thanks to the QR codes on the small tables at the information points. If you don't have a smart phone, simply note down the number of the information point, and you can easily look up on your computer at home what the abbreviations on the boundary stones mean, where the railway crossed through the moorland, and why pictures are on display in the sheep barn.
