Erik Bloeming

My name is Erik Bloeming, and I come from the Dutch city of Emmen. Natural reserve ranger, forester, ornithologist, nature lover, committed ambassador for nature conservation in the Netherlands - all these terms apply to me, and yet hardly begin to describe what defines me: my absolute passion for plants and animals, landscapes and natural areas.

As a renowned ornithologist, I travel a lot internationally - of course, the birdlife on the moors is my particular focus. I hold a special place in my heart for the "winter guests at Bargerveen", whose "performances" are simply indescribable. But not only them. In addition to birds, I really love butterflies. Finally, my intensive involvement in the technical principles of rewetting meant that I was directly involved in the implementation of such techniques in Bargerveen.

Birds and butterflies are highly fascinating creatures. And I want to mediate this to visitors. Rare species have established themselves in the natural reserve, and migrating birds stop here too. There’s so much to see, with 280 species of birds and more than 30 species of butterflies. And yet not only is there a unique diversity of fauna here, but the flora, too, has much to offer: Beaksedge, cross-leaved heath and carnivorous sundew are just a few examples of the rich plant habitat in the upland moor. Irrespective of which time of year you visit the Naturpark Moor - Veenland natural reserve, it will always offer some special kind of natural spectacle.
